my web comic is up now too. The layout is exactly the same as Emma’s. Sue me. I do plan on moving it on over to my webbysite at some point.

also, THE SHOW! someone do an official post soon, I’m going to bed.

I Was Touched Inappropriately By Herkey.

Here he is.  This is the bad man-bird.  He touched me.

Herkey The Jerkey

His name is Herkey, and he is the school mascot of the University of Iowa.  I’ve known Herkey to have a bit of a history.  He’s gotten in fights with other mascots, he’s booed other teams, and one time I saw him give the middle finger(feather?) to a 5 year old kid.  But I never thought I would be victim to his unfunny attempts at “Herkey Humor”.

I was at the University Fundraising Kickoff for the United Way and other local charities, taking notes on the affair and looking very dour, as I was concerned as to why the University of Iowa cheerleaders were doing pep-rally cheers for 25 odd people who were all associated with the kickoff, when all of a sudden I felt someone massaging me.  Now, I like getting massages, I’m not totally unreasonable.  But when I looked behind me expecting to see a friend, and saw that bastard.  I felt violated.  I could smell the fetid bird breath shooting out of his big yellow beak.  He then made light of the fact I was taking notes, pretending to read them and then I do believe he gestured that he did not know how to read.  How sad Herkey.  How sad.  I’ve never been to a Hawkeye sporting event of any kind, but now I’m almost afraid to go, out of fear of a post-traumatic stress breakdown.  God damn you, Herkey.

it’s a good thing.

050820_marthastewart_hsmallwidec.jpgI’m pretty sure everyone knows this already, but a good fifty percent of Shamboteers are openly Pro-Martha Stewart. I don’t see why this should ever be a bad thing – she is FABULOUS. She pretty much owns everything and flaunts it, looks great, and makes really good food that I want to make all the time. Thanks to her Alli and I have made a tasty white bean salad and the best champagne punch I have ever tasted. I would have linked to them on her site, but it’s down, how sad. Plus her dog’s name is Pau-Pau.
Also, if you are interested, I have a webcomic. I decided to host it on WordPress, because I love it so much! Oddly enough, there is a doinstuff.blogspot.com, but that’s not my comic. CURIOUS. UTTERLY CURIOUS AND ODD. I’m also excited for the show on Friday. Sorry this post is terribly boring, I’m basically just waiting for the day I get an SD card reader. There’s a lot of pictures to post. And vijos.

The All-too-Familiar Conversation

Oh–hi there, Shambot! No, I didn’t see you ….yeah, you look totally different! It hasn’t been that long, has it? Really? Man. Did you lose weight? Been working out? Huh. Must be the lighting.

So how have you been? Me? Well, you know, busy. That’s why I haven’t called. It’s been hectic. But good, character building. What–oh, har har. Yes, this coffee is the size of my head. I was going to try meth, but this was cheaper and I have sensitive nostrils. Actually, it’s free at the ‘brary and the greeting card company, and I can make it as strong as I want. Sort of like my own personal dealer –who always gives me the best cut.

Here, could you hold my bag for a second? Let me get your number…where’s my phone? God, this purse is a disaster. Okay, what is it again? Eight-six-oh–shit. I can’t do this when my hands are shaking. No, I don’t want to switch to tea. I do tea, just not as often. That’s how you found your chi? Well, good for you. I prefer to double team my caffeine fix. No loyalties here (or chi, for that matter).

Okay, I better be going if I’m going to get to class. Yeah, we’ll do lunch or something. I’m pretty busy this weekend, but maybe next.

Good to see you, Shamby! Call me!

Okay, so this isnt a great 30th post…

BUT, I wanted to talk about my new project for advanced. So at first, I didnt think this was going to go so well, and I didnt really know what I was doing, and I was frustrated with the limited type of images I was getting with the large format camera… But now I think Im on the right track. It all started when I realized that I couldnt afford a new pack of film for the LF (they run about $90 for a box of 50 sheets), and decided to check out a new camera instead. The Pentax 6×7, which is medium format, so smaller, but way more manuverable. IT WAS SO MUCH FUN! I basically went around town for a day sneaking into other peoples yards, and stuff. It was exciting! And I didnt even get caught once! Okay so that was a lie, I got caught twice. The first of which was by an awesome younger lady who was waiting for kids to show up for a birthday party or something, and so she invited me up onto her lawn so that I could get a closer look at her geraniums! This is her house:

And the second time I got caught was a little less pleasant. I went to the side of this house to photograph the Dora the Explorer chair and literally, right after I had taken the picture and was walking around the corner, this big hairy man came around the other side of this huuuge bush and in his outstretched hand he had his cell phone out, with wich he took a picture of me. And before I could react, he was like “WHAT ARE YOU TAKING A PICTURE OF??” and me, being a smarty, said back “.. oh hi… I was just admiring your plants over here… sorry if I scared you…” and proceeded to walk away. He said “OKAY.” SO scary and funny all at the same time, but I think I handled it well. AND the picture with Dora turned out! Here it is:

I am really looking forward to this project, although I fear that it will be very different, and possibly less deep than my last. And its in color, which I havent done in awhile, which is haaard. I think David Goldes is disappointed. In me. Sooooo disappointed. But thats okay, I am strangely looking forward to more confrontations!! Wish me luck!

¡PANCHITA!

Deedee and I got a bunny! Her name, if she really is a girl like the pet store says, is “Panchita.” She is pretty feisty and is also litter trained however I haven’t seen it use it litter box, but it has yet to go to the bathroom outside it’s cage. It’s tons of fun although it does scratch when you pick her up sometimes, but that’s normal. Also as you can see in the picture she is a mini lop which should mean her ears are floppy, but only one of them is for some reason. SO CUTE!

KITTENS!!

Who wants a kitten!? Fresh from my grandparents’ farm! They have the same Dad as Malcom and Aileen, so they’re likely to be adorable ragamuffins forever. I guess there’s five of ‘em.

Seriously, though, if you want a kitten, let me know, I can hook you up. Any takers in Iowa? Tim and Sam? How about in Minneapolis? Alli, Emma, and Katie?

inquiries into nerditude

So, I need your guys’ help. I’m writing the script for my movie right now, and I want the two main characters to get into an argument about something really nerdy. Now, I don’t mean Star Trek vs Star Wars, that’s too easy. I’m talkin’ the advantages of the Enterprise-E over its previous models, or, Obi-wan versus Qui-gon-jin: who was a better teacher, or, warriors versus barbarians: which is more useful when flanking enemies in D&D.

So, I’m asking: what’s the nerdiest argument you’ve ever had?

Details would be nice, since I’m going to be writing a whole scene around it. If you don’t want to talk about it in a comment, you can always email me.

paying the bills

so this is what i did today instead of work on my comic which i am ABOUT to do:

we just found out the printer needed it today and i hadn’t even started it yet. the plan was for me to do it on paper, but my boss just said to do it digitally. So! i got to try out the new corel painter x and man is it awesome (but slow) if you could see the detail, it actually looks like a chalk drawing with the texture and everything. but you cant see it because the actual art is 24’x24’! thats right this is being printed on a huge metal medallion, suckers. aparently, these guys did some cool stuff.
