neurophysicists + Bobby McFerrin

Just found this great video of Bobby McFerrin demonstrating to a panel of neurophysicists how the brain anticipates notes at the World Science Festival. Cool! What else can our brains do?!?

As long as we’re posting videos, here’s an adorable Japanese stop-motion ukelele video featured on Boing Boing:

SOMEBODY PLEASE TELL ME WHAT IS HAPPENING IN THESE COMMERCIALS. EDIT: Colin to the rescue!!! Here is what he said in the comments section…

“They’re ads for a website, Jaran, which helps you make reservations for hotels I think, for various activities such as business trips, summer vacation, and…hotel…trips. Believe it or not, it’s even more awesome and adorable if you know Japanese. For example, in the first one in the background they keep saying “Shuccho, shuccho, shuccho” which means “Business trip, business trip business trip,” AND every thing the cat says is in adorable cat Japanese where he says “nyan” all the time instead of real words.”

LALAM CHA LAM!

Howard Zinn, 1922-2010

It’s actually taken me off guard how sad I am that Howard Zinn died yesterday. I’m not good a eulogizing, so I’m not going to. Instead, I’m just going to post a lecture that Dr. Zinn gave last year and let that be that.
