I haven’t posted for a while, and this is kind of a throw-away post, but I just watched this video on youtube and I don’t know what to think of it:
It’s some hot, upcoming band from the UK, The Horrors. On one hand, the video is pretty cool, and the song is interesting. However, it’s just… weird. I think I want to like the band, but at the same time they seem like total poseurs! They definitely have an image and a style they’re going for, kind of like if Tim Burton decided he want to artificially create a band. Also, the video is directed by Chris Cunningham, and he’s cool…. right? Plus, there is an awesome part where the lead singer is crouched down next to the keyboardist, and screaming and pointing. I think that part is awesome.
So I’ve been back and forth from the ‘midji lately, which has been quite nice actually. The grass is green, the birds are chirping, and there are no more homeworks for me to worry about (now all I have to do is wait for grades to be posted, yikes!)!!! Everyone, I have been having fun. I get to laze around all day while Alex is plugging away at grueling software engineering finals, I get to watch lots of cable TV and eat at Wally’s with Alex’s friends (which they all like to complain about but I think is kinda cool because I dont get to do these things at MCAD… It’s like I’m in REALL COLLEGE!) And on Friday we went to a BBQ at one of his professors’ houses in the middle of nowhere. Marty had the wonderful foresight to ask if i needed any special food items, so I got delicious portabello veggie patties while everyone else had to eat regular old fatty BEEF patties. HA! They dont know what theyre missing… And there was also this delicious dark brew beer there (this, from Alex, because I didnt want to ask for a beer because I didnt know if he’d be okay with that… everyone else seemed to be at least 21 years of age. Thats okay, I had a root beer…). ANYWHO… look at these LABELS!!
Not only does TommyKnockers Brew apparantly taste good, but come on, these illustrations are GREAT! And if you go to the website, you can look at all of the labels, including their soda labels (which I dont think are as great, but still pretty good design for a boonies beer company… seriously, the only place they sell this stuff is like 100 miles from where Marty’s house is… he must have liked it quite a lot to go that far.) But I thought that all of you shambot-eers would like to see them, seeing as how we all tried to design some labels ourselves! Ironic!
Tomorrow we go with Nate and Tony to Thief River Falls to look at apartments for the summer. There is this one place that they really want to live, but they havent been calling the guys back to let themknow if there are any vacancies! So we plan on hustling them a little bit in order to put them in their place. More to come: pictures of the apartments/Thief River… I hope it’s cute!!
In the middle of your test, you can no longer decipher between what words are, what words used to mean, what are words, and the ability to read. You simply run your eyes across what appear to be odd bits of shapes, and pretend you know what’s going on, filling in little circles as the hours tip-toe past.
Almost done.
And for Spiderman 3 related fun, here’s something Steven made:
Planet Earth is a remarkable documentary, even more so on Ben’s parents’ 46 inch LCD television. As such I have ordered it for my parents as a hybrid Mamma/Pappa’s day gift, and intend to perform a B&E (breaking and entering) at a dear friend’s house in the very, VERY near future. However Amazon/The UPS Delivery Man is a B, and claims I was not at home when he attempted to deliver my parcel, even though I was (he also left no note, and I am inclined to think he did not come at all). And as I have paid 5 dollars extra for 2 day shipping, so I shall be damned if I do not have that particular parcel!
I have had my eye on it since the end of last summer, but have never been able to justify getting spending forty dollars all on one thing, and all the sudden, for no reason, a package came to my house one day. I don’t want to make you wince by sharing too many details about my personal life, I just wanted to share this wonderful act of kindness.
She’s a high class dame, and no mistake.
Also, speaking of noir-ish things, I finished my comic! Hooray! I hope to have it up on the internet at some point soon, and then I will post a link. I would love feedback of any sort.
Also, I liked spiderman 3 a lot. It had it’s flaws, but I don’t think that it is a particularly weak entry in the series.
I’ll be graduating with a BFA in Graphic Design. I was thrust into the program unexpectedly by having too many hours in the School of Art. (Originally I was just going to get my BA).
One of the requirements was to have a show. Or be part of one at least, hence the invitation you in Iowa had recieved. The opening is tonight and I’ve got a handful of pieces up at the UISD Show, up until the 29th.
For those of you who refuse to go (God Bless America), or can’t make it, I’ve posted my three favorite pieces!
Yeah. Yeah. I’ve got Seussical music stuck in my head. WANNA MAKE SOMETHING OF IT?! That godawful musical is just weasaling it’s ugly, pastel throw up marshmellowy way into my life. So be it.
Hey! I’m in a book! Lindsey e-mailed me and bill about it, and I submitted one of my sexytime girls, and bing bang boom, I got an e-mail today that said I was in. It’s kind of weird, I don’t really know how big the book is or how many people submitted.. but you know, whatever. I get a copy of the book, and as an illustrator I should be entering as many things as I can. So, cool! Yay!
I’m making a poster for Andrew Bird for my final poster project .. and I kind of realized that my sketch for it had a similarity to something else from my life…
v.s.
Buggy! I didn’t even think about how much this guy looked like Buggy (who, if you don’t know, is a paper bug I took about a gazillion pictures of over the summer). It was a subiminal shout-out to buggy.
In other news, I am in class and I don’t feel well and I am talking to Joel who will never beat me in InkLink, ever.
