HOLY CRIZZAP FINALLY
21-Dec-07
Okay, so you remember a looooong time ago when I went on that shoot with Alec in Northern MN?? And you know how I said I’d post when the magazine of all the pitchas came out?? Well that was in September. And then, Photo-Eye effed up my order, and I ended up having to endure a crazy fiasco of re-ordering and backordering and delays in shipping from Amazon (who I then resorted to) and ETC. WELL I’m still waiting for my order as we speak. But I stopped by the studio today to say hi to Alec (and go out to get some unexpected coffees) and Alec GAVE ME ONE. FINALLY. MY HANDS ARE ON IT. AFTER ALL OF THIS TIME. THE MAGAZINE I WORKED SO HARD ON. jk… Alec worked so hard on. But honestly, this is what I have to show for my internship with him… and it is beautiful.
and again… can you see my excitement?
ps. did I tell you how I bought a pair of shoes from the thrift store that we shot at, and that one of the girls wore in this double-portrait? did I tell you how SHE GOT CUT?!?! She did not make the final edit of the magazine, and neither did my shoes…

hey guys. emma here. i’m in ann arbor, raiding my parent’s fridge and watching cable television. This equates to making breakfast with my dad and watching copious law & order reruns.
speaking of food, GUESS WHAT. Jenny Tondera and I are starting a FOODIE blog called Long Weekend Tea Party. It’s still kinda getting fixed up, but I posted something anyhow. It’s gonna be even better soon.
ALSO, if there is one thing i could do during christmas, i think it would be reading all the family newsletters my parents recieve. In the past they were just painfully mundane family info, which I love, BUT NOW the writers (usually the dad, for some reason?) are trying to get a little Jay Leno-y on us. I’m currently in search of this one I read last night that will probably make Chance mad. Stay tuned, Shamboland.
New roommates! No Job.
20-Dec-07
It’s been a while since I posted and a longer while since I posted about myself, so here, for your reading pleasure, is an update on my life.
Anyone who’s seen me in the last few weeks will know that the thing that has been foremost in my mind has been The Great Job Hunt of ’07. My original goal after graduating was to have a job lined up by the first week of December. I realize now how incredibly naive that goal was. Finding a good job is hard, man. I arrogantly assumed that I’d have very little trouble getting an interesting job, but now I it seems there are a lot of people looking for jobs and my resume isn’t getting noticed as much as I’d hoped it would. I’m trying not to get too stressed out about it, but it’s a bummer to keep getting turned down for jobs. If all else fails I’ll just get a couple of part-time jobs to pay bills while I look for something better and that would be fine. Sometimes you gotta wait for the good ones, right?
The reason I need to get a job so bad is that if I don’t my new roommates will totally beat me up. These three violent dudes I’m soon to be rooming with are named Bill, Ben, and Joel and they are the meanest hombres this town has seen in a long time. We got this rad pad in Minneapolis with a three-season porch, a dishwasher, and a claw-foot bath tub… and that’s just the stuff on the first floor! I’m really super big time excited to move in. I was thinking the other day that this will be the first time I’ve lived in a place where I would totally hang out with each of my roommates individually and not just because we’re living together. This is gonna rule.
So, yup. If you hear of any jobs in economic/social justice in the ‘apples area, let me know. Otherwise, I’ll totally hook you guys up with free McDonald’s fries and let you hang out on our porch. (You can hang out on the porch even if I do get a cool job.)
P.S. I’m sure one of us will post pictures of the new place as soon as we take some. Stay tuned!

this time its all about podcasts, people. there has been no bigger aid to my hard-working-woes than podcasts. as i discovered this summer, pretty much the best thing in the world to get you through mind-numbing tasks (like driving cross the country) is talk radio. I hope you guys have made this discovery as well. and guss what?! all this talk radio (or at least the good ones) can be found on your computer for free-ninety-nine! so as a tribute to school being done to the max, here are some of my favorites (currently, i am subscribed to something like 20):
This American Life – of course, everyones favorite, the top podcast on itunes, but they seriously need some new episodes or they will be replaced.
Radiolab – actually my new favorite. well produced, almost always interesting and leaves you feeling a little bit smarter.
Wait Wait… Don’t Tell Me – hilarious news gameshow. laugh and get some news! perfect.
A Prairie Home Companion’s News from Lake Wobegon – sorry, chance. sometimes funny, sometimes touching, these are always only about fifteen minutes long, but incredibly well written considering he’s been doing them for so long. if you’re a writer, you could learn from this storyteller.
The Classic Tales Podcast – i thought this one was really creepy at first. old stories performed by one of those theater-y character actors. i still find it creepy, but the stories are just so good to listen to.
Mysterious Universe – mostly x-files stuff: UFOs, conspiracies, Cryptids. Who doesn’t love news about bigfoot?
The Naked Scientists – like radiolab (they sometimes have the same sources), but more scattered an brittish. they answer listener’s questions and talk more about science news.
Astronomy 161 – recordings of an actual introduction to astronomy class. if you cant tell, i like learning while i work. my only gripe is that the proffessor uses a lot of visuals that you miss.
PRI: Selected Shorts and New Yorker Fiction – i get these two confused, but theyre both basically short stories, which i always enjoy.
Grammar Girl – the last one i’ll mention. these are really short, but always have some little writing tip that i may have forgotten over the years without an actual english class.
so yeah, these are some of mine, but what about you guys? as always, im always looking for more stuff to listen to.
