WIG-MANIA

Emma and Bill and I had to do some serious Halloween costume research and development today. And let me ask, does this look like a success or what? Thats what I thought.

On a completely unrelated note, I have a critique with Shimon Attie tomorrow, who is giving a lecture on Thursday night. I am always kinda nervous when Im having a crit with some really super famous person however, I have to say that Katherine chose me and three others personally because (and this is a direct quote from her email) I am “ready to crit.” Which basicaly means I am doing good. BIG PROPS TO ME. Really, it is. So that always makes me a little more confident. And being confident about your work always seems to help in critique, you knows? k.

ALSO I AM REALY EXCITED FOR HALLOWEEN! I dont know what Alex and I are going to do this weekend, probably find some party somewhere or “go to the bars” but I just want to wear costumes and carve pumpkins and eat candy and do spooky things! I WANT! WHOS WITH ME?

crapbox

When you’re sick, public television is your best friend…

Okay, so I know I just made a post, but.. VISCACHA!!! My new favorite animal! viscacha.jpg

Not a labbit at all, but a GIANT MOUSER that lives in the Andes mountains. SUCH A BABY!

Cell Phone Post in the Hizzzzoouuuuuse!

So lets start this post off on the right foot, shall we? And what better way to do that than with SPRINKLE MUFFIN! Not only a SPRINKLE MUFFIN, but also a SQUISH MUFFIN.

And for my next trick, or should I say the fabulous staff of Duc Loi’s next trick, an amazing disappearing graffiti act! This buiding is right behind our apartment, and Emma and I noticed that the graffiti showed up one morning as we went to get some errands done. AND THEN about an hour or two later when we got back, IT WAS GONE! Oh you guys…

Here it is before (not bad for an over-nighter, am I right??), my favorite part is the “Thanks Tuesday?”:

And an astonishing after, bask in its glory:

Guys Look at My Photograph.

So, I had some troubles with the winding mechanism in the pentax this weekend. It was overlapping the images just a little eeny weeny bit. But this, my friends, is not just a little bit… It took me a while to figure out what was going on with this image, but then I realized that its a double exposure!! Im awesome!!

I think I need to do this more often… (cliche?)

Hello there, all.

greetingsfrombemidji.png

I am in the ‘Midji for the first time this semester. Oh, Bemidji. It is a Saturday night, and guess where the student body is?? NOT in the dorms. Its like a deserted ghost-town like in westerns up in here. I have seriously not seen anyone on the floor since I got here. Its 9:45 and I got here at 2. Amazing! Also in Bemidji can you see the classic midwestern phenomena that is “a family of hicks sitting in the back of a pickup truck chillin out, in the parking lot of an AmericInn and suites.” And this is in downtown.

Also, Alex says hi!

PS: related link to an awesome photographer who’s work is called “Greetings from Helsinki.”

Okay, so this isnt a great 30th post…

BUT, I wanted to talk about my new project for advanced. So at first, I didnt think this was going to go so well, and I didnt really know what I was doing, and I was frustrated with the limited type of images I was getting with the large format camera… But now I think Im on the right track. It all started when I realized that I couldnt afford a new pack of film for the LF (they run about $90 for a box of 50 sheets), and decided to check out a new camera instead. The Pentax 6×7, which is medium format, so smaller, but way more manuverable. IT WAS SO MUCH FUN! I basically went around town for a day sneaking into other peoples yards, and stuff. It was exciting! And I didnt even get caught once! Okay so that was a lie, I got caught twice. The first of which was by an awesome younger lady who was waiting for kids to show up for a birthday party or something, and so she invited me up onto her lawn so that I could get a closer look at her geraniums! This is her house:

And the second time I got caught was a little less pleasant. I went to the side of this house to photograph the Dora the Explorer chair and literally, right after I had taken the picture and was walking around the corner, this big hairy man came around the other side of this huuuge bush and in his outstretched hand he had his cell phone out, with wich he took a picture of me. And before I could react, he was like “WHAT ARE YOU TAKING A PICTURE OF??” and me, being a smarty, said back “.. oh hi… I was just admiring your plants over here… sorry if I scared you…” and proceeded to walk away. He said “OKAY.” SO scary and funny all at the same time, but I think I handled it well. AND the picture with Dora turned out! Here it is:

I am really looking forward to this project, although I fear that it will be very different, and possibly less deep than my last. And its in color, which I havent done in awhile, which is haaard. I think David Goldes is disappointed. In me. Sooooo disappointed. But thats okay, I am strangely looking forward to more confrontations!! Wish me luck!

So I bet you’ve been wondering what the hell I’ve been doing all summer… huh?

Well dearies, it has been bothering me much more than I’m sure it has been bothering you that I have not written a post in quite a long time. So much to post, so very little card readers and vimeos accounts to go around… But I digress. Behold, I took this photograph in Thief River Falls in early August and have finally gotten around to getting the media center to let me use the big-fancy-imacon scanner. I think it is my favorite of the bunch, besides the one of Alex sleep-drooling on a sunday afternoon. But I think I will spare him.

More posts to come, as I begin to become frusterated with my advanced project.

P.S. Next post is the big Three-Oh! … Anyone? Thirty? I guess its only an accomplishment for me… silly Fifty-ers…

TRF.

Thats what they call it. Thief River Falls. Its even on the welcome to TRF sign and all of the local postings! I wish I could be posting amusing small-town pictures for all of you lovely shambelies out there, but alas, I am shooting with a 4×5 camera. Meaning, I have to develop and scan them first. Im sorry. But it has been sooooooooooo nice to take a vacation guys. I mean I was seriously burnt out from work. And it is just so relaxing to watch MTV all day long. My Super Sweet Sixteen, Engaged & Underage, that weird your parents choose a better date for you than your current jerk boyfriend show that is really awkward. I Love the 90s. God this is amazing… I get to laze around all day in my jammies while the boys are out bringin in the bacon, and I make cookies!!! Double batch of choco-choco- chip?!?! UH HUH! With lots of leftover cookie dough. Thief also has its very own South China Buffet which I have yet to savor. Im sure it will be all it is cracked up to be.

I swear I will be more interesting next time, I just miss Shambot so muches!!!!

PS. I will be home this weekend to usher a couple of CTC special presentation shows, and for the opening of the Fringe festival! My and Emma’s friend Sam has a show in it that HE WROTE and produced that you should all check out (ps i made his production shot there!! those are our other actor-friends!!! exciting!!). Its called “Same Difference.” You can register and add the play to your schedule so that if he’s in the top 10 he wins an award or something!?

Anywho…
