uninteresting updates in emmaland

loveway.jpgHello Shambotians.

While Joel visits our Chicago chapter (whose only member I’m sure was excited), I have done a lot of really not so interesting things this weekend! Saturday I worked (of course) and talked about such stimulating things as soup.

I also attended a tots sweet Oktoberfest party thanks to Katie’s equally sweet internship. The best part was Ernie, who we have seen featured previously on Shambo. He is seriously such a cute giant piece of dog. He was also being a huge baby, not getting any food for eating. I’m sure Katie can tell you more on the subject of the pros of the party. There is a boot involved.

Also, I am spending a lot of time right now working on UFO related projects! The whole design department is doing UFO related assignments. For those who don’t go to MCAD and think I am kidding right now, let me assure you, I am not. Aliens. Everywhere. I am basing two of my projects on the story of Kelly Cahill, a fascinating tale ofj abduction, memory, and mysterious uterus marks. Good reading. Fantastic.

In art related news, I am trying to push my skills as an illustrator who uses paint. Acrylic seems to really be my best bet right now – gouache I just end up using like acrylic, but I’m testing it still. Also, I’m trying to push my skills as an illustrator who uses the computer. This is hard, it’s like there is a devil on one shoulder and an angel on the other – except I don’t know which medium represents which. YOU DECIDE?!

josh lyman, dear readers

hello shambot. emma and alli here.

one of the perks of being overworked at the children’s theatre is that sometimes you get to meet famous people! Last year we saw Semisonic play, and that was pretty cool.

it had to be you

billemma.jpgSo the other day I took a jaunt about town with Alli, Ben, and Bill. How fun! One of our stops included Brueger’s Bagels, since I have been craving them for SO LONG because of this guy in one of my morning classes who seriously brings some sort of delicious Brueger’s dough sandwich confection in EVERY DAY. It makes me ache with hunger for delicious bagel objects. Well, that ache was tended (pumpkin bagel with honey walnet cream cheese, thank you.) AND bill did the delightful drawing you see here of the gentleman on the left. Well, he looked so lonely and hopeful on the page all by himself that I couldn’t help adding my own hopeful lady and coloring the whole shebang. So here we go, a wonderful Billemma creation!!

Dizzamn, I want those socks. And that dress. And that hair. SIGH. (pop up video style side note: dress and hair based on moschino’s spring 2008 ready to wear line. dorkfashion mode.)

In other news, you can read the entire chronicles of Emma And Froggy Do Some Stuff on my blog, starting here. It’s one episode per page, so there’s a little “next post” option at the bottom. Do that.

I would be posting fantastic videos (drunk girls? mouth hand jibbles? squidy stirring?) and pictures, but guess who bought an SD card reader that tots doesn’t work?!?! That’s right, this lady. There’s a little light on the thing that flashes when I plug it into compy, and then nothing happens. Thanks a lot, life. Seriously.

i’m a little hungary

JanJan (my type 1 teacher) was talking about how he’s trying to get an exchange program going with design schools going in the Netherlands, which kills me a little inside. I really wish this would have happened earlier, because that’s an opportunity I’d have leapt upon. Eastern European countries and anything surrounding has some of the best design throughout the ages. I read a fantastic blog from a woman who lives in Sweden and she is constantly posting beautiful products from the surrounding areas, as well as beautiful things in her own house. It makes me so jealous!

And then there’s Long Ago and Far Away. According to Wikipedia, Long Ago and Far Away was made in Boston from 1989 to 1993. It was totally my favorite show as a kid, and it introduced me to James Earl Jones, who was the rockin’ narrator. Looking at it now, it has some of the best animation I’ve ever seen, and I have really strong memories of it, which means a lot to me since my memories of childhood seem to be fleeting. Anyhow, one of Long Ago and Far Away’s best skits was this Hungarian folk tale, which maybe was even animated in Hungary? That’s what the guy who posted this video on youtube said, at least. It’s beautiful, just watch it.

here’s the link, since i tried to embed it but kind of broke shambot in trying.

it’s a good thing.

050820_marthastewart_hsmallwidec.jpgI’m pretty sure everyone knows this already, but a good fifty percent of Shamboteers are openly Pro-Martha Stewart. I don’t see why this should ever be a bad thing – she is FABULOUS. She pretty much owns everything and flaunts it, looks great, and makes really good food that I want to make all the time. Thanks to her Alli and I have made a tasty white bean salad and the best champagne punch I have ever tasted. I would have linked to them on her site, but it’s down, how sad. Plus her dog’s name is Pau-Pau.
Also, if you are interested, I have a webcomic. I decided to host it on WordPress, because I love it so much! Oddly enough, there is a doinstuff.blogspot.com, but that’s not my comic. CURIOUS. UTTERLY CURIOUS AND ODD. I’m also excited for the show on Friday. Sorry this post is terribly boring, I’m basically just waiting for the day I get an SD card reader. There’s a lot of pictures to post. And vijos.

oh me

title.jpg

I have a brand new webcomic called “Emma and Froggy do some stuff”! It hasn’t been made yet, but look, I have some art.

froggy.jpg

Emma looks like me, yes, but she is not me. Anyhow, I kept drawing and redrawing for our most recent assignment. I don’t know why, it was just something I wanted to be perfect, even though it didn’t need to be. Does that ever happen to you? It was a little obsessive, but I’m happy with it now.

sweet time

I just said “sweet time” to Ben (or was it Bill? I can never tell online). I think this is a sign I need to get up to date on my slang. I’m up to date on making art works! Thanks, school. It feels so wierd to be in class with a normal amount of MCAD students in the halls again. I was saying today that I keep thinking I’ll see Chance in the hall. SIGH.

Here’s an art I did with the prompt “17th century” and “knock off” that I combined. SO FUNY. It scanned funny, but it was 5 minutes to proffy practice, so I had to take off. INTO THE ATMOSPHERE.

p.s. can we all call it proffy practice now? I like that nickname.

it’sa me, … emma!

Bronchitis schmonchitis

obviously it was time to bump chance down a notch, he has spent TOO LONG being the top shamboteer. Also I need to work up to 50 posts. After this one I’ll plan my big blowout post. Just yous guys wait.

I would like to take this time to proclaim myself a sworn enemy against Ben’s Dad. Ben’s Dad: I hear you are working your way to number one on the Sentence Game and I can tell you right now, that ain’t gonna fly. I may be one tiny girl without a tablet, but I will do everything in my power to reach something better than a 4.1 rating and then I’m coming for YOU. DO YOU HEAR ME BEN’S DAD!?!??!!?! This is going to be a battle more amazing than Harry vs. Voldy. I tell you I do. (p.s. vote for furny.)

This also means that I might have to invest in a tablet soon. Any suggestions on where I might purchase a fairly cheap but reasonable quality, mac compatible one? My parents got me one for christmas ages ago but I found out last summer that it doesn’t effin’ work on a mac! What kind of crap is that?!?!? I need to win the Sentence Game.

Also, I need a scanner? Technology, why must you cost money. Somebody help me find one. To make this post worthwhile, here is a picture I made once:
