Well hey there, fellow shambotsters. I would write a little blurb here about how crappy I am about updating this thing, but we’ve all heard it before. So, I shall substitute the normal “oh, I can’t believe it’s been so long since I posted” with this:
I AM COMING HOME TO THE APPLES ON THURSDAY.
Yes. Less than a week. Far less, in fact. More like half a week. I miss the living hell out of all of you, and I when I see your faces, I will squeeze you until your brains pop out of your ears and ooze into your hoodies.
so i made this one today instead of working, its Aquaman as a hot chick. As per request by Emma, who also wants to make some super-cuties, i’ll post some general guidelines that i follow:
1. outfits must reflect the form and color of the chosen super hero’s classic costume
2. clothes must be directly taken from current fashions
3. models must be cute girls, but not taken directly from photographs.
4. boobs must not be super-hero-gigantic
5. if the character has a mask or emblem or defining accessory, so must the drawing.
So, bomb threats have been an uncommon, though seemingly natural part of my University of Iowa experience. It’s happened at least 3 times in as many years, and today it got a little bit weirder.
An email was sent in today anonymously, stating that four pipe bombs had been constructed and placed on campus (the university has not released specific locations, or if the e-mail even specified)with several parts of campus having been examined almost at random, until a package was found between the Old Capitol (historical landmark) and Jessup Hall (roughly put, the nervous center of the university, see map). Said package was detonated by the Iowa City bomb squad, sounding roughly “like a bunch of of 12-guage shot guns going off” according to the building’s maitenance crew.
I work roughly in over half the buildings in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences on campus (the right side of the map, also with exceptions). Eerily, I don’t feel all that upset considering the nature of the situation, but it can be said today has been an interesting day to say the least. More as it comes in.
Also, on an unrelated note, Shambot.com is now-officially-totally-for-realz on DreamHost! Yay! For awhile there I was feeling queasy about what would happen to Shambot. GoDaddy was being a bitch about the whole thing in their “polite,” corporate ways. Thanks again DreamHost (and Colin) for making Shambot.com possible!!

haven’t posted in a while. don’t know why, I’ve actually been doing pretty much nothing but working on several art projects.
this isn’t one of them. i took a break and did a few more doodlies of more fashionable DC super heroes, scanned them and colored them (quickly) this time its wonder girl and the flash as a sassy girl. but aren’t they cute? they keep journals and drink tea with shortbread. more to come, i’ll take requests.
Chance, Lindsey and I went to see Love In October at the Varsity Theater today (all ages show). They were pretty good, your average emerging band, maybe. The band after them SUCKED, so we left, decided we were hungry, and trotted over to Pot Belly’s all in one swift move. A few kids who were at the show were there too, and as I was biting into my delicious sandwhich when one of them (after whispering amongst themselves) came up to me and nervously stammered, “Hey, my friends and I were wondering, are you Blizzard?”
“Yes, actually… no. But I had you going didn’t I?”
“Woah, yeah. Are you sure? ‘Cause you look exactly like him.”
“Sorry man.”
“Okay, cool. Sorry for bothering you. Keep it real.” he said, smiling, convinced I was lying.
As he was walking back to his table I mumbled, “Man, almost got my cover blown.” He excitedly ran back to his table exclaiming “Oh man that’s totally him!” The girls got all giggley and everything. They kept looking over at us as they finished their food and as they were leaving they all yelled “Byyyye Blizzard!”
Right in stride I yelled back “Peace out!” (more…)
These are my kitties – left is Churra, a snooty old bitch who demands attention, but only when she wants it, she drools when she purrs, and is balding; right is Vinny, a scrappy little boy who terrorizes the neighborhood (and I mean literally, he stalks the neighbors’ indoor cat- from outside- notice the holes in his ears from fights). Daw… mah babbiees
Anyway, I have been “forced” to spend many an hour resting this past week. When you spend so much time resting that you begin to suffer from atrophy, you know you’ve had plenty of time to think about things. (seriously on the atrophy thing, I’m having trouble walking, I have reached a new personal high of laziness, and lost weight in the process – anyway, back the my point…)
Here’s what my challenged mind has been debating: purchase a Wii, or get a new tattoo. I know. Real exciting deliberations. The pro/cons: (more…)
Tomorrow is the last day of my food illustration class. I waited until earlier today to start the final and here is 1 of 2 that are supposed to be done by tomorrow. I think we might have time in class to finish up, but since I haven’t even started the second one, trouble is sure to arise. Anyway, here is my grandma drawing:
Our homework is to illustrate how in these certain areas of the world people tend to have a longer life expectancy due to their lifestyle. I chose Okinawa, as you can see by my stereotypical sun rising there. The woman’s shadow is supposed to be a metaphor for her long life and it’s also about family and roots and things. She’s also kind of standing on/hovering over water, and I think water is supposed to represent eternity?
PS- I don’t know why the folding screen doesn’t have a shadow. I’m not really sure if I like it in the first place; the frames of the screens feel like the only structured elements in the piece.
