undy-pants, batman!

This may not be my most conceptually challenging or intelligent or even best work… but it was pretty fun to do. Well, most of it. I kind of got stuck on the whole “guilty pleasure for homework” thing…but seriously, who can deny themselves of drawing pretty ladies in lingerie? Seriously!! SRSLY!

2.jpg

The little “sexytime” bit is my fake brand of underwears that I developed for product illustration. Yes, I could have done something for our final project that I could actually make and sell, but who is sensible like that? Certainly not Bill, with his amazing shoes.

Anyhow. Today was a good day. My Books and Broadsides class went to the Minnesota Historical Center and I got to touch/look through an Atlas from the 1500s! There were whales in it with two blow-holes!! Also the snack-cart thing was in. Also I got a new bag at Target. Also a bunch of people apparently got tours of our apartment. A good day indeed! I may not have gotten an Xbox 360 or a Wii, but soon I’ll have a new swimsuit, and that’s EVEN BETTER.

Okay, maybe not. But really, can an X-Box 360 look like this?!?! I think not.

watch the grow tomatoes!

okay, shambot. FINE. FINE. I’ll post. You are just there, with your little S! and red logo… calling me… calling me back. SO FINE. HERE. TAKE SOME ARTWORK. I don’t know what to do with it, just take it. I mean, I wasn’t really using it anyway. God.

death of a malesman

anywho, in reality I kind of like this. It’s for a theatre/music poster worskshop I’m taking, and it is actually the first time I’ve done photomontage like this before. Very interesting for me.. although I will admit that I totally EFFED up the “salesman” lettering, the “death” part probably did not need that much room. But I’m generally happy with it. Perhaps one day I will be making real posters for real theaters! That’s something I’m actually interested in!

In other news, I too won no monies. But I’m okay with it because everyone who won (in my department, at least) deserved it. No hard feelings. I’m just happy because Alli and Katie and I are totally going to live in a beautiful duplex come June and it will be the swingest Shambotian Household ever. That that, dooples, the dooplettes have come to roost.

Also yesterday was my brother’s birthday! I got the entire front of house staff at the CTC to sing happy birthday to him and my parents, and he told me he might come visit with our friend Rory in the summertime! Not many of you guys have met the little Trithart, but I think you will like him.

Also, start getting pumped for SES. It is coming.

OH p.s. Facebook deleted Genencor’s account. OUTRAGE.

But really. I’m glad Evan, moi, and our reporter in the field Chance Lunning were able to get some quality time in Chicago. I had a really really good time! And spring break is still going strong, what with hanging merits and (not really) watching Layer Cake. Many pictures have been posted upon the flickr.

But that is not what I come here to talk to you about. No, I come to talk to you about tea. I have recently become obsessed with it, going so far as to purchase a cute teacup and saucer set, and (more recently) some dry tea leaves and a tea infuser and my new favorite place, Argo Tea. Regrettably, these cutie patootie tea cafes are only in chicago, for now. They are so delicious, and I only got to go there once!! They had crazy things like teapuccinos and americanizy bubble teas. I got some tasty ginger peach tea from them, but now I realize that I have a leetle problem: I have no tea pot, only tea kettle. So now I have to procure one, but it MUST be cutie. So, Minneapolins, where do I go for this? I want something delicate and precious, and preferably on the not spendy side. I need to make my life cutier! CUTIER.

also today we saw a mouse at work and I had terrible horrible flashbacks to Project Flatmouse, which was in effect last season at the theater. Basically it consisted of my boss squishing intruding mice with his large boot. Take what you want of that. (It didn’t happen today, though. phew).

I leave you tonight, Shambotians, with this rediculous movie.

welcome to the chancey city

Evan and I are in Chance’s apartment right now, chillin’ with his ‘rents. You know, the usual. Chicago is pretty good so far, even though

1) we almost missed the megabus

2) the trip itself was mildly painful

3) Evan’s cousin’s dogs kept us up half the night.

But now my parents are in town, and we had a delicious breakfast AND lunch and soon we will have a delicious dinner. I uploaded two pictures (including this one of the most tasty cinnamon roll evah), and might upload more, depending on how interesting my life is. I miss y’all, but not too much. JK LOL OMG BBQ ASAP

oh no john, i don’t hate you.. i just hate basketball

Alli and I are geeking out over “Meet Me in St. Louis” as we speak. Evan is here too, but I am pretty sure he is not as invested as Judy Garland’s impeccable charm as we two girly girls are. I mean, seriously. Huge technicolor dresses and huge tenchnicolor hair, along with the move elaborate interior decoration there EVER WAS? How can you not love that. Now I want to watch An American in Paris, and the Muisc Man, and probably Gidget, even though that isn’t a musical. I just love rediculous old movies.

So yeah, i made some accordian books for class and it was mundo fun. I LOVE PAPERING BOOK BOARD. Geez. Am I crazy? I also love using rubber stamps. Sigh. Maybe if I had more patience for various printmaking methods I would have been a PrintPaperBooks major. But alas, I am lazy.

now Alli and I are debating over what musical we watch next. I am voting for Swing Time. Fred Astaire is number two or three maybe on my list of charming men, with Jimmy Stewart being number one, of course.

Also, congrats to Bill for your fantastic brewskie label. Can I try some of it!?!?!?

in a way that’s different from who we are

okay guys. as much as I loved it, I’m kind of glad High School Musical is over. It was time for it to go. My excitement for the Lost Boys of the Sudan (which all of you should see) overtook any remorse I felt about the show ending as of now. ALSO today (which was the last day of HSM, as we call it, and thus why this is on my mind) the fire alarm went off during the end of the first show and I got to be all cool and in charge and showed people where to go to evacuate the theater and comforted frightened looking children.

A side note: though I like working at the Children’s Theatre, I absolutely 99% despise children. I have met a few that I liked, but I have only talked to them for short periods of time, and thus if I spent more time with them I would probably dislike them. I don’t know what’s wrong with me – I’m a girl, I will probably one day HAVE a baby (maybe), shouldn’t I like childrens?

Enough depressing thoughts. Instead, how about some thoughts about the movie 300:

1) it was 89.9778% in sloooooow mooootion (the cool kind, where it slows down and then speeds up)
2) it was way less sexy than advertised

3) frat boys are not fun to sit in front of, but joel can tell you about that?

4) it’s oddly confusing to see sweet nerdy little monk from Van Helsing morphing into this

5)… slow motion?

what does it take…. to catch a break?

oh. my. gosh. thanks to alli leaving a copy of metro magazine i just got a huge dose of my three favorite things: fashion spreads, fantastic vacation spots, and bradley greenwald. There’s an entire article about my favorite not single, too old for me, and gay anyways actor and I pretty much squealed in delight when I saw his mug (well, mugs. they did some funny photoshopping and had him in various place in the image) gracing the pages of metro. There’s also a shoutout to Lost Boys of the Sudan, which I am also excited about. Oh Children’s Theatre. What WILL you do next.

I am using my computer! Yes! You have no idea how good it feels to be able to use your very own compy after a very long break of it just sitting there, closed and off, staring up at you with those sad compy eyes. Unfortunately, I don’t have a charger of my own just yet – this is Alli’s (allison left many-a good thing here tonight!), but it’s good enough. I just had to see my baby again.

Oh, also, I figured everyone was posting Ernie related items on Shambie, so now it’s my turn… even IF bill took this picutre… it was on my camera so I’m claiming it, AHAHAHAHA. There are two other equally adorable pictures that I myself took of Ernie on le fleekr, if you would like to see a bulldog looking away from the camera.

BTW I totally had a dream that I thought I won the Beer Label contest but then I realized that I didn’t because I forgot to submit my design! It hopefully won’t happen in real life…. although first I need my sketchbook back coughcougbillcoughcough.

here comes the jack-pot question in advance

That song just got stuck in my head last night, along with Olivia Newton John’s part in “You’re the One that I Want”. I’m not sure which is wierder, although it’s probably the former because it is nowhere near New Years Eve. I’m sorry, these details are boring and probably only interesting to me. ANYWHO.

As you may have noticed from Alli’s post, in some sort of freak accident I got into Made at MCAD? I put in my pieces about Tokyo, except for the Takashi Murakami one because I realized that I included an image in there that wasn’t Murakami’s. EMBARASSING. So, yeah. I’m still not sure how I feel about this year’s show – having one juror kinda throws me off balance. Don’t get me wrong, I am happy about getting in!!! But still not sure what to think… I wanted everyone to get in, I guess. Everyone except for the people that I don’t like. Is that so wrong?!??! IS IT!??!?!
btw, I am officially in love with the Linden Hills neighborhood. Bill is housesitting in those parts and it is my dream community. Everything is pretty, everything is tasty, it even has its own website. Something is very very right about that. I mean, god, if you need more convincing look at this picture. Cute little kids surrounded by flowers. What else could you ask for. (except I really don’t like little kids).

oh, p.s. my little image is from a rockin’ 1960s cookbook i took out from the library. It may or may not have inspired my last post’s title.

Oh boy! Hot dogs.

lobster
Guess what, guys! My computer is dead! Well, not dead dead, but the batteries are gone and I haven’t been to the Dooples yet to charge good ol’ Compy, and all my chargers are either (1) in the trash can because they lit on fire WHILE plugged into my computer and almost ruin my life or (2) have been sparking a lot which makes me think that they too will set on fire. I can now safely say that I never want to see something on fire that close to my computer EVER AGAIN. Oh yeah sure hey.

So I am in the library, having just finished writing a bunch about Elizabeth Shippen Green who is a cool illustrator from the olden days. I also tried my best to find good illustrations of some sort of nerdy 50s dad with plaid shorts, but my search is still ongoing. I can find a bunch of images from vintage patterns online, but they are way too small for me to use. WHAT TO DO. (this is for an invititation project I’m working on for Product Illustration, btw.) sigh sigh sigh. I am having a good time in the ‘brary, though. It’s nice to sit down and look through books. Especially because I am way overtired from playing really good four square (I was ON FORM last night, oh my gosh. You did not want to cross me, I got revenge FOR KEEPS) and then coming home and eating a huge spaghetti dinner with Evan and watching the Sopranos until 2:00 AM. LATE!

I made the image above and the one linked below a few days ago and I don’t know what to do with them!! Make them into postcards and sell them at the art sale? Get an Etsy account and hope for the best? AUGH. I just know that I like them and Evan likes them too except he doesn’t like the lobster heart but I do.

never

hey man

this isn’t fair. Everyone’s got some sort of achievement, ailment, goal, or creation that they get to show off. And what do I have?! NOTHING. Gosh. I don’t even have a cool song, EVEN THOUGH I have a fancypants new version of Garage Band.
I mean, school is going pretty good – I don’t have as big of a classload as I normally do, so I’m getting things done KATIE-STYLE (i.e. way before they have to be done). The Made at MCAD show is coming up, and I guess I’m thinking about putting some pieces in – except I’m thinking about what I’ve made so far in classes this and last semester… and I can’t think of anything I want to put in there. I guess maybe three of my tokyo pieces? Or my drawing final assignment? It’s wierd. I thought I was pretty proud of last semester’s work, but now I feel like it’s old and crusty. UGH.

Also, Bill posting Mr. McPrettyCool reminded me that I had scanned something recently..
