Spyhuuse

For our latest digital illustration assignment, our teacher took our class to Spyhouse where we sketched the environment and took notes, and he bought our whole class a drink. He payed for everyone’s coffee! He’s such a cool teacher/guy. Anyway, here’s my final piece:

That’s a guy (I guess me) drinking my favorite drink, a Tokyo Rose, while I read a book titled “A fine piece of literature” by “an author you’ve never heard of”. I’m not a pretentious person, but most of the people that go there often are uppity like that. Then there’s fun shapes and flowers flying around, some pictures that I took are collaged in, and a drawings of buildings in downtown Minneapolis. I think I like the way it turned out, but it’s a bit too complex. I want to try to simplify a bit and get back to drawing a bit more realistically (the way the buildings are drawn). I think my illustrations are too cartoony right now, plus I think I’m using the flowers and swirls too much.

So, last Thursday we actually got to hang our work in Spyhouse! Way cool! I’ve always wanted to have somthing on the walls there and my dream has come true. It’s only up for a week, but it’s great to get some attention from the local scene. Emma and Katie’s pieces are hanging on either side of mine on a section of a wall (which we have entirely to ourselves might I add) and I’m really excited for all of us.
