a side by side comparrison between an x-men page from the 80’s by Barry Windsor-Smith and a pencil recreation by myself. note: this is not a tracing.  think of it as a lame version of a master’s study (this is an assignment, im not that big of a dork…)

so obviously i was drawing this and was thinking, you know, i could totally put some funny tex in the word balloons and it might work. i think the title would be “Wolverine totally hates Storm’s slutty outfit” but my hand hurt so i didnt bother, but if anybody wants to script it out, id totally consider putting it in if i ever get around to finishing it (that is, as long as it is hilarious).

i also recreated a David Mazzucchelli page, but the BWS was way better. if you want to see it:

WAIT!!!

Before anyone in Iowa decides to go see this for many reasons I am sure, wait for us! We’re going to be there for the Long Halloween Party, so we could go see it that weekend. Ummm, please?

When you’re sick, public television is your best friend…

Okay, so I know I just made a post, but.. VISCACHA!!! My new favorite animal! viscacha.jpg

Not a labbit at all, but a GIANT MOUSER that lives in the Andes mountains. SUCH A BABY!

Cell Phone Post in the Hizzzzoouuuuuse!

So lets start this post off on the right foot, shall we? And what better way to do that than with SPRINKLE MUFFIN! Not only a SPRINKLE MUFFIN, but also a SQUISH MUFFIN.

And for my next trick, or should I say the fabulous staff of Duc Loi’s next trick, an amazing disappearing graffiti act! This buiding is right behind our apartment, and Emma and I noticed that the graffiti showed up one morning as we went to get some errands done. AND THEN about an hour or two later when we got back, IT WAS GONE! Oh you guys…

Here it is before (not bad for an over-nighter, am I right??), my favorite part is the “Thanks Tuesday?”:

And an astonishing after, bask in its glory:

YO! WE NEEDS A LOGO! (UPDATED)

Ok, so not so much of a 24 hour challenge, more of a general invite to the SB! commune. As previously stated, the show’s name is now “NERD ALERT!” with Tim and Sam. The first episodes’ filming was a bit slow but overall, good. We’ll hopefully have a video if not audio cast up soon-ish. So yeah, if you wanna, draw us a pretty thing to scan in and it could be the background of the show (WE CAN GREENSCREEN THIS B!)

Thanks!

Tim and Sam

Guys Look at My Photograph.

So, I had some troubles with the winding mechanism in the pentax this weekend. It was overlapping the images just a little eeny weeny bit. But this, my friends, is not just a little bit… It took me a while to figure out what was going on with this image, but then I realized that its a double exposure!! Im awesome!!

I think I need to do this more often… (cliche?)

I’m scared of aliens…

…but I’m having way too much fun with my Graphic Design UFO project. Seriously, almost 100% creative freedom besides the fact that it has to somehow involve UFO. Other people are hating it, but I think it’s great. Right now my theme is about language and translation. Or ‘alien language’ if you will. Basically, my idea is that when you hear someone speaking another language that you’re not familiar with, it means absolutely nothing. But to that person, it obviously means something. In my project I’m revealing words and “translating” from a foreign language to english. I haven’t worked out everything yet, and I’m still testing some of my methods. You can watch them! I’m showing this clip in my class tomorrow as a form of process. I’m also not sure where this project is going, but I like what’s happened so far.

Too soon?

So, I suppose by now you guys have all read about the death at the Chicago Marathon, and I just wanted to let you all know that both Joel and I are okay and totally alive. This is mostly because we didn’t participate in the Chicago Marathon. Well actually… we did for about 10 ft! (Joel says it was more than ten ft, but Joel is wrong) We had to cross the street and to do so we had to JOIN THE MARATHON!!! A guy pushed me because I run slow.

edited by joel because this picture is too awesome to pass up

uninteresting updates in emmaland

loveway.jpgHello Shambotians.

While Joel visits our Chicago chapter (whose only member I’m sure was excited), I have done a lot of really not so interesting things this weekend! Saturday I worked (of course) and talked about such stimulating things as soup.

I also attended a tots sweet Oktoberfest party thanks to Katie’s equally sweet internship. The best part was Ernie, who we have seen featured previously on Shambo. He is seriously such a cute giant piece of dog. He was also being a huge baby, not getting any food for eating. I’m sure Katie can tell you more on the subject of the pros of the party. There is a boot involved.

Also, I am spending a lot of time right now working on UFO related projects! The whole design department is doing UFO related assignments. For those who don’t go to MCAD and think I am kidding right now, let me assure you, I am not. Aliens. Everywhere. I am basing two of my projects on the story of Kelly Cahill, a fascinating tale ofj abduction, memory, and mysterious uterus marks. Good reading. Fantastic.

In art related news, I am trying to push my skills as an illustrator who uses paint. Acrylic seems to really be my best bet right now – gouache I just end up using like acrylic, but I’m testing it still. Also, I’m trying to push my skills as an illustrator who uses the computer. This is hard, it’s like there is a devil on one shoulder and an angel on the other – except I don’t know which medium represents which. YOU DECIDE?!
