Have you guys seen these hilarious new Arts PSA’s? I don’t know exactly how I got there. And I guess they’re not particularly new, as they started running in early June, but I just thought that you all should be aware! (That rhymed btw, in a Petrarchan sonnet type of way…)
God, I love these. Especially this one. ESPECIALLY when the two kids yell out in astonishment “JOHANNES BRAHMS?!?!” Gets me every time…
In other news, I am going to have a piece in the MN State Fair! Now, I don’t know about all of you Iowans, or Wisconsin-ites, or Michi-ganders out there, but our state fair is actually kind of a big deal. (Check out the grandstand entertainment for this year yo: 3 Doors Down, Gnarls Barkley, The Black Crowes, THE BACKSTREET BOYS featuring the new pussycat dolls band GIRLICIOUS! and a special presentation of A Prairie Home Companion. This is some serious shit, guys. As you can see. PLUS, Alec Soth always submits a piece to the Fair, so really I could say that I’ve shown in the same exhibition is he. Adorable!

No, now shamboo, I am not leaving you all. I just feel the need sometimes to make crazy and frivolous posts on shambot and then refrain because I realize that they are crazy and frivolous, like what color my toe-nails are painted at present. I was watching this really awful (I mean REALLY awful) movie today called Loveless in Los Angeles – don’t ask me why – and during a montage scene where a friend of the main character tries to reform him, a song plays that a lot of you minneapolines (and not-minneapolines too, if you’ve ever seen some of the work we do at SES every year) may recognize. You have to wait for it. The part you’re looking for is maybe two-thirds through the trailer (I guess you have to go to the IMDB version, not the YouTube version, because it has a different song?!?!).
I went to art school for 3.5 years so that I wouldn’t have to sit in a cubicle all day and type things. And yet, I love aspects of having said job. For instance, evenings and weekends. I don’t have to do anything on evenings and weekends if I don’t wanna! OR I can do this:
There’s a blog that I read in my real daily life, called Poppy Talk. And guess who’s featured in today’s post?!?! None other than our very own Emma Trithart, of the MCAD-ian variety. Not only is the whole post about You Work For Them and their new online zine, but they actually name work done by specific artists that they like. Cool!
So today, the girls were supposed to come over for our newly-implemented stay-at-home brunches, but then disaster struck and everyone had to work (on a saturday!!) or do something else. Okay, so heres a list of reasons I actually DO like Bemidji: 1) ALEX DUHHH 2) I can sleep in and hang out and not have to go to work/do anything I want, 3) Alex always has cheezits 4) UNLIMITED FREAKING CABLE. And one of my favorite cable channels is the Discovery Channel. While watching Mythbusters today, we saw this great ad for the DC that we thought we’d share with you! Its really cute!

I wish I were doing things. I keep blaming it on the snow, “oh I cant go out and shoot this week, because its all sloppy!” “oh I cant go out and shoot today because its a weekend, and everyone will be out and seee me shooting them!” Sometimes, like every artist im sure, wishes they were doing more, making more. Shooting more. And granted, Ive been sick this past week with an awful cold (its a good thing im typing and not talking because you wouldnt be able to hear or understand me) not able to do much of anything, still it gets you thinking. Ive been thinking of cameras, and getting one, and of the gift card to westphoto ive had sitting around since i graduated, and maybe I should shoot the snow while it is here, no thats cliche, ill just shoot so much in cancun this may!
