Oh Jesus, Where Ever Did You Scurry Off To?

Don’t read this if you really, really love Jesus. You’re only going to get mad. I don’t want to make you angry. I wouldn’t like you when you’re angry.

“TELL ME Why do we sleep in church but…when the cerimony is over we suddenly wake up? Why is it so hard to talk about God but so easy to talk about sex? Why are we so bored when we look at a Christian magazine….but find it easy to read Playboy?…. Why is it so easy to ignore a Godly facebook message…yet we repost the nasty ones? Why are churches getting smaller…but bars and clubs are growing??…. Think about it”

-Someone I know from high school on Facebook

Okay fine. My Response:

“Why do we sleep in lecture halls, but awaken when others rouse, ready to leave?

Why talk about god when there are progressive movements and issues on hand that need our attention?

Why would you read a playboy at all? Why not the news? Why not write or create something instead?

Why do people look to god and the church to solve their problems if other we need other people to help us through our hardships?”
Why do some people who believe in Jesus seem totally inable to shut the fuck up about how wonderful their god is? And why is it when they’re one of the largest groups in this country do they seem to think that they’re constantly being persecuted? I get very frustrated sometimes with this issue, and if you’re of the religious persuasion, I certainly don’t mean to offend.

Seriously though, it’s rediculous. “God Bless America”, and Jesus certainly seem to be everywhere, and only serve as a reminder that those who kick and scream about what the rest of us can and cannot do with our lives are hypocrites. Pure and simple. Don’t tell me that you’re being persecuted while you’re making laws over how the rest of are to “behave”.

*sigh*

Jesus is cool an all, but he’s always tellin me that sex is a sin an’ junk. So, I can’t really vouch for the guy.

I think what we-know-who was trying to do was create nostalgia for 50s, that point in american history that I have quite correctly heard called “the dark ages”, when men where men, church was good, and sex was bad doncha know.

I can’t blame him, growing up and going out into the real world is awful scary and complicated, and it’s understandable to cling to easy answers.

I remember when I got back from the harassment of LGBT students in schools conference last year, I was talking about how sucessful it was and how I learned a bunch of stuff and it was really enligthening and this girl in my grade who is an uber-christian said “yeah, well, the problem I have with that conference, though, is that there isn’t a conference on how -Christian- students are harassed in schools.” …keep in mind this was after I had just talked about how shocked I was to hear some of the shit that was going on at Prarie, including a girl getting her tires slashed and “fag” spray painted on her car.
I guess she just gets a kick out of viewing herself as a little persecuted deciple of Jesus or something. Pretty fucked up shit

I saw that same original message on a profile on FB as well. I was wondering if you’d seen it. It made me just as frustrated.
